INOFOLIC® Combi HP is a dietary supplement containing myo-inositol, D-chiro-inositol, alpha-lactalbumin, and folic acid useful to increase the intake of these substances in case of reduced consumption in diet or increased physiological requirement.

What is the physiological role of myo-Inositol and D-chiro-Inositol?

Myo-inositol and D-chiro-inositol are two stereoisomers of inositol. They are present in the human body in unbound fractions or in association with phospholipids.

Myo-inositol plays a key role as a second messenger of several hormones such as Insulin, FSH. and TSH. A lack of Myo-Inositol is known to lead to alterations in the response to these hormones. It controls fat and sugar metabolism and it also regulates the cellular functions of the nervous system, Scientific studies have shown that high concentrations of myo-inositol in follicular fluid are good indicators of embryo and oocyte quality. In certain pathological conditions, such as polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), there is in fact a noticeable lack of Myo-inositol at follicular fluid level.

D-chiro-inositol is also involved in the transduction of messages induced by insulin. Myo-inositol land D-chiro-inositol play different roles within the body and every tissue regulates the production of the two inositols to have a specific ratio. This ratio is critical for the correct functionality of organs and tissues. In fact, only follicles containing high concentrations of myo-inositol can support the proper maturation of the pocute. In order to maintain a physiologic plasmatic ratio of the two stereoisomers. supplementation of D-chiro-inositol needs to take place simultaneously with the administration of myo-inositol. In healthy subjects, the ratio between myo-inositol and D-chiro-inositol is 40 parts of myo-inositol to 1 part of D-chiro- inositol, Scientific studies show that individuals with insulin resistance (found in conditions such ‘as PCOS, diabetes and obesity), the ratio between myo-inositol and D-chiro-inositol is altered if, compared to healthy subjects. In fact, women with POS are found to have reduced levels of. myo-inositol in both plasma and follicular fluid.

What is the physiological role of alpha-lactalbumin?

Alpha-lactalbumin is a milk serum protein which can improve the intestinal absorption of Inositols. This property is essential for those “Inositol-resistant” individuals who fall to effectively respond to the intake of inositols. Clinical data have shown that about 35% of women suffering from POS have difficulties in the absorption of inositols. The causes could be due to gastrointestinal diseases, such as microbiota alterations and chronic inflammation, problems which often affect PCOS women with BMI > 25, Combined intake of alpha-lactalbumin, myo- inositol and D-chiro-inositol in a ratio of 40:1 is therefore able to normalize the metabolic and hormonal activity of PCS women, improving absorption of inositols and reducing the risk of therapeutic failure.

What Is the physiological role of folic acid?

Folic Acid is a B-group water-soluble vitamin. It is associated with the synthesis of DNA, RNA and proteins, and with the process of cell division and chromosome repair. It helps the normal expansion of maternal tissues during pregnancy and a deficiency of folic acid may lead to the Increase in intrafollicular homocysteine, resulting in the deterioration of oocyte quality. Scientific studies have also shown that a reduced intake of folic acid is often related to foetal growth defects. The supplementary intake of folic acid increases the status of maternal folate. A low status of the maternal folate is a risk factor for the development of neural tube defects in the foetus.
